As per Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona star Raphinha may get suspended for the next Champions League season games due to his aggressive criticism of the referee during the match against Atletico Madrid.
The ‘Robbed’ Comment That Sparked Controversy
After the match, the Brazilian was unable to control his frustration and expressed his anger towards the referee in an interview with a Brazilian media outlet. Raphinha stated the match was 'robbed', which sparked controversy. He said, 'It's human to commit one error, but for it to happen again in another game? We played really well, but this tie was robbed from us.'
The captain also questioned why there was not a single booking against Atlético Madrid while they committed 15 fouls.
A Reminder of Neymar’s 2019 Suspension Case
Raphinha's comments constitute a punishable offence under UEFA regulations, and he may face a suspension of up to 3 matches in the UCL, similar to the suspension Neymar received for his comments after the 2019 PSG vs Manchester United match; therefore, according to article 11 of UEFA's disciplinary code, Raphinha could be sanctioned for up to 3 matches next season.
