'I Want to Leave' – Julian Alvarez Opens Door to Barcelona Move

Barcelona's pursuit of Julian Alvarez has taken a significant turn after the Argentine striker publicly admitted that he wants to leave Atletico Madrid this summer.

The forward has been Barcelona's preferred long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski for several months. While personal terms have reportedly never been a major obstacle, Atletico Madrid's unwillingness to negotiate with a direct rival has complicated the operation from the beginning.

Atletico have consistently maintained a firm stance over Alvarez's future, demanding a fee well beyond Barcelona's expectations. The Madrid club even rejected interest from Real Madrid earlier this summer, reportedly pointing interested clubs toward the player's €500 million release clause.

However, the situation may now be changing.

Speaking after Argentina's 2-0 victory over Austria at the FIFA World Cup, Alvarez made his intentions clear for the first time in public.

"I don't want to hide or act like I don't want to be clear. I try to be honest."

"I spoke to Atletico people, and I think the best for everyone involved is for me to leave."

"I want to fulfill my dream."

The comments have inevitably increased speculation surrounding his future and could place additional pressure on Atletico Madrid ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to reports from Ben Yadal Achraf, Atletico may now be forced to consider negotiations following the player's public stance, despite their previous reluctance to entertain offers.

The growing uncertainty surrounding Alvarez's future is also linked to his relationship with Diego Simeone. Fabrizio Romano recently reported that relations between the striker and the Atletico manager have become increasingly distant in recent months, with people close to the player believing that continuing together may no longer be possible.

While Atletico still hold a strong contractual position and remain under no obligation to sell, keeping an unhappy player could create further complications behind the scenes.

Barcelona continues to monitor the situation closely. The Catalan club remain convinced that Alvarez possesses the profile needed to lead the attack for years to come, and recent developments could provide the biggest opening yet for a deal that once seemed almost impossible.
