Álvarez Remains Barcelona's Dream Signing
Julián Álvarez's name has once again taken center stage in Barcelona's transfer plans, but the operation has suddenly become far more complicated.
For months, the Argentine striker has been viewed as Barcelona's dream successor to Robert Lewandowski. Reports suggested that Álvarez was open to a move to Camp Nou and had already rejected Atlético Madrid's latest contract proposal, fueling optimism among Barça supporters.
Florentino Pérez Unveils His Mystery Galáctico
However, Real Madrid have now entered the picture.
Days before the club's presidential election, Florentino Pérez publicly revealed that he was preparing a €150 million offer for a new Galáctico signing. The Real Madrid president hinted that the player would be a world-class star capable of following in the footsteps of legendary signings such as Kaká and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Real Madrid Submit €150M Offer for the Argentine
Following his election victory, Pérez promised to reveal the identity of the mystery player. Real Madrid has now officially confirmed that player to be Julián Álvarez.
In an official statement, Los Blancos announced that they had submitted a €150 million offer to Atlético Madrid for the Argentine striker. Atlético rejected the proposal immediately and referred Real Madrid to Álvarez's €500 million release clause.
A Major Blow for Barcelona
The development represents a significant obstacle for Barcelona.
The Catalan club had reportedly planned to invest around €120 million in an attempt to bring Álvarez to Camp Nou. With Real Madrid now publicly showing their willingness to spend €150 million, Atlético Madrid have even less incentive to negotiate a reduced fee.
Atlético also made their position crystal clear after the bid was rejected, publicly stating that they are not considering any offers for the player.
The Player's Desire Keeps Barça Alive
Despite the latest twist, Barcelona may still have one important factor working in their favor.
According to previous reports, Álvarez has already informed Atlético Madrid of his desire to seek a new challenge and has rejected a contract renewal despite being tied to the club until 2030. Reports have also suggested that Barcelona remains his preferred destination.
The coming weeks could now determine whether Barcelona can turn that preference into a transfer, or whether Real Madrid's financial power will completely reshape one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer.
