Barcelona Decide Against Permanent Move

Marcus Rashford’s chapter at Barcelona is coming to an end. As per the latest developments, according to The Athletic, Barcelona have withdrawn their interest in signing Rashford on a permanent deal after his loan spell. Barca signed Rashford on a loan deal last summer as a short-term solution to left winger problems by covering the majority of his salary, and Catalans have a buy option for 30 million euros. Earlier reports were coming out saying Barca will seriously consider a permanent signing of the English international, but in the last lap of the season things have changed.

Why Barcelona Pulled the Plug

After the injury of star winger Raphinha, Blaugrana expected world-class performance from Rashford in the last phase of the season, but as per Barcelona's assessment, he failed to deliver it. As per The Athletic's report, Barca believes the player was really poor in the Champions League quarterfinal matches against Atlético Madrid; that’s one of the main reasons why they decided not to retain the player and explore the market for better options.

Barcelona Planning a New Direction

Rashford showed his quality and gave some important performances, including his brace vs. Newcastle United in Blaugrana, but there is concern regarding his off-the-ball work rate in matches, and he receives a lot of criticism from culers for the same. As per developments from Spain, Barca is looking for a young, cheap workhorse for their left wing role, so the departure of Rashford is more likely.

What's your thoughts on the situation? Should Barca retain Rashford? Feel free to comment.
