Barcelona Consider Surprise Jan Virgili Return
Barcelona is planning to activate the buyback clause of Catalan winger Jan Virgili following the relegation of his current club , Mallorca, reports Gabriel Sans [Mundo Deportivo].
Virgili doesn 't want to play in the second division for Mallorca; he wants to play in first-division football, and Barcelona sees an excellent market opportunity here.
The 19-year-old winger is a highly rated prospect in Spain; he played 30 matches in the 2025-26 La Liga season, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists for the team.
Barcelona transferred the winger in the summer of 2025 for €3.5 million, and now his market value has risen to €15 million, according to Mundo Deportivo, with multiple Spanish and foreign clubs interested in the player.
Relegation Opens Door for Discounted Buyback
Due to Mallorca's relegation, the release clause in the contract has been reduced to €12 million from €30 million for all clubs but €7.5 million for Barcelona. Barcelona is aware of this market opportunity and is internally discussing the possibility of activating the buyback clause , but not to use him in Flick 's system for next season; Flick has already decided not to work with the player, which led Barca to sell him to Mallorca.
Barça See Potential Financial Opportunity
Barcelona is planning to bring back the player and sell him to another club for a better fee or include Virgili in a player-plus-cash deal for any transfers in the summer.
Deco and the sporting management are assessing all possibilities of financially benefiting from the deal of Jan Virgili.
Virgili was a highly rated player in La Masia, but he failed to convince senior team manager Hansi Flick of his place in the first team. Still, clubs including Como and several Premier League and La Liga clubs are interested in the player, according to Mundo Deportivo.
