Barcelona push for Antony Gordon as Deco opens talks despite €85m barrier

Barcelona identify Gordon as left wing option

Deco met Antony Gordon's agents; it is the hottest thing now in the Barcelona transfer market. According to SPORT, Barcelona has shortlisted English forward Antony Gordon as a potential option to reinforce the left wing this summer.

Deco opens contact but price remains a concern

Gordon is open for a move to a foreign club. Bayern Munich has been chasing the player for a long time and has already held multiple rounds of discussion with the player's camp, but the asking price of Newcastle United is around 85 million euros, which is the barrier for Bayern and Barcelona, but Deco, who likes the player, will continue to push for a lower fee.

Gordon fits Flick’s tactical demands

Gordon’s profile is perfect for Flick's game plan, as he is a workhorse on the left wing like Raphinha, but he is not just a workhorse but really good in 1-to-1 situations and goalscoring. When Barca met Newcastle United in the group stage of the Champions League, Gordon scored against Barca.

The player's maturity on and off the ball is appreciable, and Gordon's versatility also makes him a unique profile; he can play as a left winger, attacking midfielder, and striker and can make an impact in those roles.

Financial situation could decide the move

Even if Barca decided to pursue this deal, they would have to face competition from Bayern and probably some other English clubs. Barcelona will bid if the player is available for a lower fee and if the salary is affordable for the team; whether Barca will reach a 1:1 financial situation also will be crucial here.
