AZ Alkmaar player Kees Smit said to the media, “I’m going to Barcelona for holidays. If they ask for a negotiation, I’d like to do that too. I certainly have time for that". This move shows the player's interest in signing for the Catalans. Recent reports also indicated that ex-Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman wants Kees to sign for Barca.
European Giants Monitoring the Situation Closely
Kees Smith is one of the highest-rated midfielders in the Netherlands; several big European clubs, like Real Madrid and Premier League clubs, are interested in him in the midfielder role. The Dutchman is known for his ability to control the game, press resistance, and fearless ball-carrying through the midfield; he has good passing range and dribbling ability to trouble opponent teams.
Midfield Depth Could Block Barcelona Move
Even though the player expressed his interest in signing for the Catalans, it is very less likely for Barca to make a move for him because Barcelona's midfield is already stacked with top players like Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Bernal, Casado, and La Masia talents like Tomy Marques.
La Masia Path Gains More Support Internally
So in this transfer window a midfielder will not be a priority for Barca, and fans are already urging the clubs to give La Masia midfielders more chances in games to develop squad depth.
